We embraced the farm-to-table culture by taking an Italian cooking class, where we learned to make pasta, bruschetta with fresh basil and tomatoes, and a hearty Bolognese sauce with ingredients sourced from the Mercato Centrale. Thanks to the expert guidance of Chef Luca, our newfound culinary skills culminated in one of the most memorable meals of our trip.
Next, we visited the stunning villages of Cinque Terre: Manarola, Vernazza, and Monterosso. Perched precariously on the cliffs of the Ligurian Sea, these villages are marvels of ancient construction and modern resilience. Walking through the narrow streets and terraced vineyards, we couldn't help but admire the ingenuity that allowed these communities to thrive for centuries.
Rome, the Eternal City, lived up to its reputation as a historical and architectural wonder. Every monument left us in awe, from the Colosseum's grandiose structure to the unparalleled beauty of St. Peter's Basilica. The Trevi Fountain was a highlight, where we made wishes for the future with the traditional coin toss.

Although Dan had a moment of vertigo on the chair lifts, the panoramic views at the top made it all worthwhile.
Our final stop, Pompeii, was the most anticipated of our trip. Pompeii provides a window into ancient Roman life, captured in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The mosaic tiles and vibrant frescoes were remarkably preserved, some of which bore simple yet evocative messages like "beware of dog." We marveled at the ingenuity of the public water system and ancient fast food shops.

The ongoing discoveries serve as a reminder of Pompeii's enduring historical significance, and their efforts to preserve the remains of this once-thriving city ensure that it will continue to reveal its secrets.
